“The Lord is good to all, he has compassion on all he has made.” Psalm 145:9
Have you ever been part of a church service or a spiritual gathering where the leader announced “God is good!” and the audience response was “All the time!” Then the leader flips it and says, “All the time” and our response is “God is good!” This interaction, routine in many places, magnifies a vital truth about God–He is indeed, good!
We hear Jesus call his Father good when a young man addresses him as “Good Teacher.” Jesus responds “Why do you call me good? Only God is truly good.” (Matthew 19:17, Mark 10:18, Luke 18:19)
The Gospel is called the Good News because it contains the ultimate in good news; through Jesus, we are healed, restored and live close to God, enjoying the benefits of His Kingdom (which is also very good!)
The creation of this world as told in Genesis 1 emphasized the point that everything God made from the sun in the sky to the seed-bearing plants was good! Good. File this word in your mental folder marked “who God is.”
According to Jesus, God is a good God who knows how to give good gifts to His children. (Matthew 7:11) This leads us to understand along with the apostle Paul that “God is working all things for good.” (Romans 8:28) Goodness opens a wider window for us to see who God really is. When we take time to speak to God or ask questions, we know the answer will be good!
Seek me. My path is good.
Trust me. My work is good.
Ask me. My power is good.
Come to me. My presence is good.
I created you. You are good!
Goodness gathers itself into every space of your life, so take heart . . . you are in “good company” all the time!
**Enjoy a bonus poem below inspired by God’s goodness!
Reaching in (allowing God’s word to work in your soul): Read Psalm 145. There are 21 verses in this praise psalm and at least 12 of them contain particular qualities of God. Spend time reading this psalm over the next few days and ponder the goodness of who God is.
Reaching out (taking God’s word into the world): Is there a part of your life right now that has you feeling stuck or unsatisfied? Give it to God and believe that His work will be good.
